From "Miraculous Deception" by P.I. Barrington

Future Imperfect Book Two: Miraculous DeceptionGavin begins to realize his feelings for Payce...

"Payce?" Gavin leaned over, avoiding the holograph hovering above her. "Payce?"

Silence answered him and he stood up, frowning.

Perhaps it's me who's the nutter here as Nick claims. She's not even conscious. Perhaps it's time I see someone about this... couldn't hurt.

He ran the back of his hand down Payce’s cheek and along her jaw careful not to interrupt the holograph or any of the ugly probes that stuck out of her. He hated them, wanted to rip them out of her and pick her up, and carry her away; to take her home and lie beside her and hold her until she opened her eyes and smiled at him. But he couldn’t that so he comforted himself by brushing her hair from her forehead with his palm and planting a kiss there. It took all his will to crush down the tears he wanted to cry; instead turned and moved toward the door. Gavin looked back before opening it.

"Come on, Payce, please. Pull through this damn it!" he told her never noticing her fingers moving, tapping rhythmically against the bed.
