From "Mangled Noize" by Fredrik P. Williams

As he turned the corner leading to the last straightaway towards school, he saw them. The red Toyota Corolla was coming in his direction with Joey driving and some other Asian guys in the car with him. There was one in the passenger’s seat and at least two, possibly three in the back seat. Frederick could feel his heart pounding as the car approached. Suddenly, he saw Joey pointing out the window at him. He heard the engine rev up and saw smoke from the tires as Joey spun the car around and skidded to a halt right in front of him.
Frederick grabbed the metal pipe and threw his folder away. He was standing at attention ready for the fight to begin. It was almost like it was in slow motion to Frederick as he saw the guns. Joey was the first one getting out of the car. Frederick had to react immediately. Without thinking, he threw the pipe right at Joey’s head. Time seemed to stand still as he saw the pipe approach Joey and catch him right in the mouth as his head appeared over the top of the car. Frederick could see a tooth fly out--
